How big of a tent do we really need?
A larger tent really is better. 4 people and clothes are more comfortable in a 4-6 or 6-8 person tent. A 4-person tent has room for 4 sleeping bags next to each other and little else. (And our children always sleep with favorite toys and blankets!)
What does the temperature rating on sleeping bags mean?
It is meant to indicate the low temperature at which sleeping will still be comfortable. For most summertime campouts a 30+ is usually fine(30 degrees Fahrenheit). They make sleeping bags -20 or more, but that's usually too cold for families so you really don't need one that heavy.
Do I need a camping stove?
Absolutely not! All camp cooking can be done over an open fire. You can even use pots from home -- just coat the bottoms with dish soap before placing on the fire and the black from the fire will wash off easily!!
Do I have to cook over the fire?
Not at all. You can use a camp stove that works just like a gas stove in your home only uses propane instead of natural gas. **Easier still -- cook only hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire and go out to eat for the rest!**
What if I ordered the wrong item?
Simply send an email stating the problem and receive a return authorization code and complete directions for returning the item. Your payment account will be credited once the item is returned. Full details are in Store Policies.
Where's the best place to camp?
The 'best' place is where you have the most fun! We've found state parks are simplest. They ususally have complete facilities -- flush toilets, showers, well marked trails, and sometimes playgrounds. Other parks may have outhouse-type restrooms and no showers. Then again, the backyard can be best for a first night out - especially with young children. There's a website that lists all US State Parks sorted by state.
